To be able to own a home is one of the basic needs for every human being. Social housing plays a crucial role for every civilised society since it provides the opportunity for people with lower incomes to be able to afford a home, create spatial and social bonds and being part of a community.
The relation between private and public spaces co-exist within the proposal. Each house is detached from each other and has its own private garden. In contrast, the introduction of a ‘social corridor’, an open public space, in between the housing units; provides the opportunity for social interaction to take place amongst the residents in order to shape a new neighbourhood. Also, taking advantage of the existing changing levels of the site, the proposal involves the provision of an underground parking space, releasing the upper level from any vehicles, allowing for pedestrian use only.
