The hodgepodge of our individual interventions in space contributes to the formation of the neighborhoods, villages and cities in which we choose to live. The mountainous natural topography, and specificly the amphitheatric arrangement of the Palaichori village, is adopted and reflected in the various manmade interventions in space.
The survey of the existing building revealed spatial characteristics similar to those of the first reading of the place as it is divided into two parts. On one hand the building in use and on the other the extension, a structural skeleton awaiting for future use. The first, the inhabited space, is in the foreground and looks from above the main square of the village, while the second one is hidden on the back.
The decision on the spatial and programmatic separation was a requirement of the space itself. The concept of the river, the linear element that crosses the village, is reintroduced in the proposed in the form of an open, covered corridor with terraces. A neck, a bridge between social and personal space, is inserted and introduces the user in an upward transition. Once elevated to the more private space, selected views reconnects the user with the surroundings.
